This is our beloved Class A Motorhome Dolly. She has taken us on many adventures and has housed us when we were homeless. She came to us used and abused, but with a little TLC and a lot of $$$, she has proven to be a trusty and reliable companion for our adventures. She went a long time without a name, but with some not-so-flattering nicknames like “The Beast,” “The Taj-ma-Heath,” “The Flying Turd….” You get the drift. We finally decided it was time for a respectable name and held a family vote. Everyone submitted an idea and was able to vote for their 3 favorites. The choices were:
Big Bertha
Old Betsy
Clementine
Sydney
Mollie
Dolly
Caroline
I was very happy that Dolly won (who wants to be named “Big Bertha”???), especially because of my Dolly Parton super-fan status.
Although I love Dolly, driving her is not my favorite thing. I imagine it to be like steering Shamu would be (maybe that would have been a more appropriate name). She is big and bulky and catches the wind like a giant sail, so it’s a two handed job with no letting your guard down. After a few hours of driving, your arms, neck, and back are sore.
Chad is a pro, especially driving her around the city, and she and I have gradually gotten a feel for each other as we’ve made our way across the south. We both like smooth, flat, wide, empty highways.
We love our Dolly and here’s to her keeping us safe on our odyssey!
