Making our way into New Mexico, we detoured north from the I-10 to visit White Sands National Monument. We started at the visitor’s center and learned about how the sand is made of gypsum that is washed down the mountains and eroded by the water and wind.

After that, we bought a sled from the gift shop and set off on the scenic loop that takes you through the dunes.

We love us some sand and the white sands of New Mexico did not disappoint! As we drove the loop, we felt like we were surrounded by snowy hills, but the hot air contradicted that illusion!

We found some awesome dunes to play in and sled down.

We stayed to watch the sun set and met some fun people from the area. A woman walking by us heard the boys singing a church song and she stopped in her tracks and said, “I know that song! You’re LDS!” We had fun connecting over that commonality and she kindly offered to take a family picture for us.
