We really enjoyed our drive across southern Louisiana. There was water everywhere and it was so green! It seemed like a good 2/3 of our drive from Texas to NOLA was spent on a bridge, going over bayous, rivers, canals, and lakes.

After making it to New Orleans and checking into our RV Park (a very nice one inside, but the only place we’ve stayed surrounded by a concrete fence with sharp metal shards at the top…), we took an Uber to Frenchmen Street to look for dinner and Jazz.

We found a place with great pizza and even better music! The kids were in heaven!

When I was finally able to pry them away from the music, we walked to Cafe du Monde, famous for their beignets (fresh doughnut/scone-like pastries covered in powdered sugar.

During our walk around the city we passed many interesting characters. To quote Joey, “Listening to Jazz was probably my favorite part of the trip so far, but I would never bring my kids here.” Parenting fail or parenting win? Not sure. They were all a little wary of the many of the sketchy people as they rightly should have been. Driving past Bourbon Street was enough to keep them away for life.

The next day we took a bus tour around the city followed by a paddle boat river tour on the Mississippi. It took us to the site of the famous Battle of New Orleans and served us a yummy Creole buffet for lunch.

Later, Joey and Chad tried their hand at street performing at Jackson Square. Sadly, they didn’t make any money. In fact, somehow we ended up giving money to their single admirer. We finished off our day with a ride in a street car that we accidentally took too far and couldn’t ride back because we were out of cash. Thank goodness for Uber!
