Our day in Philadelphia also happened to be Kate’s birthday!

She is such a good sport considering that we are almost always out of town on her birthday. We promised her that next summer we will be home and she can have a big party with all of her friends! We had plans for a fun birthday lunch, but lucked out when we arrived at Liberty Square. A local business was giving away free “Wawa” sub sandwiches, drinks, and more!

Isn’t she the cutest?! Somehow she scraped the bridge of her nose in an RV park swimming pool!

After lunch, we wrote thank you letters to soldiers and went to Franklin Square to ride the historic carousel. They were also preparing for a Chinese lantern festival and it was fun to see all of the beautiful lanterns!

Next, we hopped on a city bus to take us to some fun stops throughout the city. My favorite stop was Love Park! They have games set out for anyone to play, and it’s easy to find yourself playing and having a great time with strangers! A little boy in the picture below suddenly threw his football and me, and pretty soon we were enjoying a great game of catch – so fun!

The kids were super excited to climb the “Rocky Stairs” aka the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They made a funny video set to the Rocky theme that we will post later, but here are some photos..

Finally, we went to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. It was awesome being there on the anniversary of the day that the Declaration of Independence was first signed. They told us that technically July 2nd could have been Independence Day, but I’m glad they chose the 4th. It just has a nice “ring” to it!

For dinner, most of us enjoyed Philly Cheesesteaks! Kate chose pizza from a restaurant called “Big A**” Pizza” and it did not disappoint! We had some delicious “Philadelphia Ice” for dessert and then got caught in a big thunderstorm on our way back to the RV.

We were grateful that the rest of the day had been perfect weather. It made for a wonderful day in Philly and a great way to celebrate Katelynn’s 7th birthday!
